Seven Days that Divide the World by John C. Lennox
Level of difficulty: Easy read, but written with theological depth and insight
John Lennox’s book, Seven Days that Divide the World: The Beginning According to Genesis and Science, is a gem.
I’ve been teaching the book of Genesis at seminary for over two decades, and most of the books I recommend to students are commentaries, monographs, and journal articles. But this short and highly accessible book written for a popular audience is worth every penny. Lennox’s ability to summarize scholarship on debated issues and present a clear path forward that is theologically astute is remarkable.
Lennox is a brilliant mathematician who masterfully navigates the world of science and creation, bringing insight and clarity to the opening chapters of the Bible. He argues cogently that human beings are not the result of natural processes; nor are the result of preexisting hominids or Neolithic farmers being endowed with cognitive and spiritual qualities, but rather, they are the result of God’s special creation, his supernatural intervention. What a great book! You’ll come away pondering the mystery of God’s good creation, and you’ll be encouraged in your faith—God’s word can be trusted.
If you google John Lennox, you’ll find videos and podcasts, especially on the topic of science and faith, but also on apologetics and artificial intelligence. With so many YouTube videos out there that can be a waste of time, I highly recommend anything he does. His videos are informative and engaging, and they are well worth your time!
